What's In A Name
EVERYTHING!
That’s it, post over, no more musings.
Seriously though I find names so terribly interesting. People, animals, places. They tell you so very much not of the subject but of the people giving it.
Of course in fiction the name often tells you things about the character too, as though everything were named by some all seeing god.
Tells you a lot about the writer too. What they value, what they THINK you value as a reader. I value distinctiveness. I hope YOU value clarity. That’s why Urkjorman, my minotaur is named Urkjorman and often shortened to “Urk”. Originally it was something like Yurjourman with some funny vowel accents in there.
Would have stood out, but might have hurt your eyes to see that 500 times in 10,000 words. Al’s original name wasn’t quite as bad.
So what’s in a name? In short; the namER. Hope the little bit me you find in these names is welcome.
Take care my dear readers.
