The Silver Lining
The Silver Lining
I had another idea for today’s title. Something like “Make your setbacks opportunities” but that was very long and I think most people understand what '“Silver Lining” means.
For any reading this blog in the year four-thousand-and-seven when that saying has died out the full phrase is. “Every storm cloud has a silver lining.” The idea being that even when things seem bad there is some benefit or goodness that may be found.
That is true for me this week. For many people this week, or the week previous is Spring Break. Some people, particularly in professions related to education, get this time off. Many who do not have professions related to education take this time off as well.
I had hoped to join them, but could not and for a time, I was upset.
Then I got over it.
This is not, I assure you an argument that vacations, that time for relaxation and enjoyment are unimportant. Such things are integral to sustaining the human condition. You were not born to labor and die. I’ll have my vacation time, worry not.
So why bring it up?
Because here I am now in this week and find that had I taken that vacation things would likely be substantially worse for me. Circumstances have conspired to make Life difficult on me and, oddly, it would have been more difficult if I was on vacation doing what I had intended over this week.
And there’s my silver lining. Because I am here, because I am working, because I could not use the time they way I wanted I am able to use my time the way I must.
Life is full of setbacks and disappointments, much as I mentioned in the previous blog post. Don’t let disappointment rob you of opportunity. If it must rain then use the free water to nourish your plants.
Man that would have been a much better blog title. “If it must rain use the water to nourish your plants.”
I thank you my dear readers and hope this missive has been as helpful to read as it was to write. God bless;
