Measure Twice; Cut Once
Measure Twice; Cut Once
It’s an old and simple phrase but one always worth remembering. If you saw the snippet of raw story from Thursday’s blog you will well understand why I value this phrase so much.
That piece of story wasn’t bad, it might even be good “enough” but it wasn’t good. It’s not GREAT and that’s what you deserve. Hell that’s what I deserve, to release into the world something of my utmost quality.
Of course there is the danger of over-correction. Of measuring and refining forever and never doing anything because it isn’t perfect. Ya know like my OTHER favorite phrase. “Don’t let perfection be the enemy of the Good.”
I’m like a five-year-old I have a LOT of favorite phrases.
I digress.
In case you have wondered why, if the manuscript for these short (20K words or so) stories are completed so long ago why they have yet to see your eyes. A few reasons, mostly to do with money, scheduling editors, and all that boring logistical stuff. But also because I only want to “cut once”.
A little time, a little precision now will save me embarrassment and you a poor experience. And such mannerisms in your own life may be as beneficial to you and those about you as well.
A little time, a little focus, one more review can do wonders for us all.
Well, thank you for humoring me during this little jaunt into my addled mind and I sincerely hope some part of this helps you in a time of need. Until next time.
Take care and God bless;
