Musings Of A Wordsmith

The Wallace Works Blog where our resident Wordsmith and others talk about what is going on and what may come.

Consistency Is Inconsistent

Consistency Is Inconsistent

I did something I haven’t done in a while. I read a book, actually read a … wait a moment. Didn’t we do this a few weeks back?

Being consistent is hard.

I have not read as much as I should have though I have read more than I would have had I not made the resolution to do so.

I could list a number of reasons why I didn’t but the excuses aren’t important or the reason I started this missive.

The surest way to positive changes in our lives is consistent, repetitive change. Is building and re-enforcing habits of the things we want to do and should be doing.

Of course when we fail to keep up with these “simple” incremental habits it can feel devastating, like we’re backsliding and all our hard work means nothing.

Here’s the thing though, the work you did doesn’t go away. Nor will your habits chastise you for your break in loyalty. It will welcome you back whenever you are ready to return and you can resume building and re-enforcing your positive habits and changes.

As I said above, being consistent hard. Perhaps the real consistency is that we will all be inconsistent from time to time. This doesn’t mean we can discard our goals and treat the habits we are building as mere hobbies, but attacking ourselves for mortal failings does us no good.

So, be consistent, understand that being consistent is hard and that you can always return to the good habits you are trying to build. You build them, they build you.

I hope this missive is as helpful to you to read as it was for me to write. Thank you and God bless;
