A Dream With A Goal Is A Plan
A Dream With A Goal Is A Plan
In the united states, at the time of this writing, it is Martin Luther King Jr Day. The day where we celebrate and remember the Civil Rights leader who did much to advance the cause of equality between the races and was assassinated as a result.
He was a great man famed for his “I Have A Dream” speech as well as all the difficulties he faced and how much he advanced civil rights in America. Right now there are millions of blog posts about how great a man he was, and he deserves every single one of them.
This blog will be a little different. Dr. King had a dream but really it was more than that, he had a plan. He did not just wish for a better tomorrow he took action to bring the world he wanted closer to the preset he lived in.
Dreams are beautiful they are inspirational and one must never give up on dreaming. It is such intangible things as our dreams that make us human and tell us who we are. However dreaming is not enough, you need goals, you need plans, you need ways to take steps toward that dream and to seize the opportunities that will enable it.
I dreamed of being an author, for decades, but d to fear and a host of other excuses I never took the step forward to be an author. Not until my friend offered me a position in her anthologies. Then I had a goal. To produce three short stories within the time limit necessary to meet her publishing deadlines.
And, as evidenced by this blog and the five stories that have been completed, though three were unpublished to return in the future, I have accomplished that dream. Now my dream is to become a prolific author and I must set goals that will bring me toward that.
Dr. King was doing the same though on a much larger scale and for a much more important cause. Even that famed speech was to be step toward his goal of equality and unity. That by voicing his dream he would show people the world he wanted to see and they too could see that world and see that it was good enough to reach toward.
This is a day when we are supposed to take lessons from Dr. King. Mostly we take the big ones. Civility, equality, protest, opposition to evil, and these are all great lessons. However those lessons are built on the small lessons. Education, networking, and setting measurable goals to achieve your dreams.
Let us honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr by learning from him, the big and the small. Make your dreams goals, and make your goals reality.
Thank you and God bless;
